Period Features and Modern Materials in a Swedish Apartment
This turn-of-the-century apartment in Gothenburg was renovated a couple of years ago. During the renovations, they skilfully paired historical features with contemporary materials into a beautiful blend of old and new.
Beautiful period features from the early 20th century have been preserved, like the wooden floorboards, fireplaces, stucco, and ceiling rosette. In addition, the apartment has more than 3 meter high ceilings, creating a wonderful sense of volume in the spaces.
The living room and kitchen are designed in a large open-plan room with plenty of space for sitting, dining, and cooking. Three large windows flood the room with natural light.
A comfortable seating area is designed when you first step into the room. A large rug defines the area.
The white sofa is paired with a beautiful Plinth Marble Table from Norm Architects and an arching wall lamp from Valerie Objects.
In the corner of the room stands an original fireplace in a lovely pastel blue shade, adding a nice color touch to the neutral room.
The owners added a large vintage table in front of the windows.
You can see that the kitchen and the living room used to be two separate rooms by the change in the wooden floor.
The kitchen has a smart design, with high cabinets behind the half wall and low cabinets in the open area to retain that open feeling.
The cabinets have fronts in dark-stained ash veneer from Superfront that are paired with a quartz composite countertop and backsplash.
The master bedroom is an airy and bright space facing the communal courtyard. The pale beige walls make the original joinery and stucco stand out. In the corner stands another original fireplace.
Is there a better space for a desk than under a window? The large window offers lovely views of the green courtyard. The desk top is from IKEA.
The second bedroom is now a charming children’s bedroom with access to a balcony though a pair of fully glazed doors.
Another original fireplace graces this room, decorated in a calm color palette with a simple String shelf system for storage.
The renovated and extended bathroom features stylish tiles from Bricmate and a sink recessed into a tiled bench with plenty of storage space.
The hall is designed in two parts. By the front door, beautiful Victorian-style tiles from Byggfabriken lie on the floor, and two large wardrobes offer plenty of storage space.
Further in the hall are smaller wall-mounted cabinets with a stone top, and a charming gallery wall hanging above.
The apartment is listed for sale at Alvhem.
