A Black and White Primrose Hill Mews House with a Roof Terrace
Tucked away at the end of a gated cobbled mews in the heart of Primrose Hill stands this mews house with contemporary interiors and a large roof terrace. It looks like a typical historic mews house with white-painted brickwork, carriage doors, and sash windows. Still, inside, you will find a modern black and white interior palette, open-plan living spaces, and green outdoor areas.
Threefold Architects transformed the historic mews into a contemporary home. Original elements have been restored where possible and paired with a restrained palette of materials characteristic of the building’s industrial heritage.
During the renovation, a steel frame was inserted into the historic building, making the interior space airy and open-plan with white walls, wooden floorboards, and large windows in the living space.
The open-plan living room and kitchen are located on the top floor, with a small terrace in the corner and stairs leading to the grand roof terrace on top of the building.
The space is wonderfully bright, thanks to two sets of sliding glass doors leading to a small roof terrace, skylights, and a Juliet balcony.
The minimal Bulthaup kitchen features slate gray cabinets paired with a stainless steel countertop.
The wall on the other side of the dining table is fitted with custom matt-white floor-to-ceiling cabinets.
The sitting room is located next to the small roof terrace. The brickwork has been left exposed and painted white, and the log burner adds warmth in the colder months.
The top two floors and the staircases feature Dinesen Douglas fir floorboards.
The middle floor contains the master suite that runs the entire length of the house. The main bedroom is at the front of the house, leading directly into a dressing room and the master bathroom beyond.
The master bathroom is spacious and bright thanks to French doors leading to a Juliet balcony. The room features a large shower with a rainfall shower, two composite stone sinks, and a freestanding bath complemented with black enamel Vola brassware.
The smaller room on this floor is turned into a home office with a dynamic shelving system and a white-painted brick wall.
The ground floor is home to two more rooms and a bathroom.
The front room, with its large carriage doors, has been turned into a beautiful home office with gray walls and polished concrete floors that run throughout the ground floor plan.
The other room on the ground floor is a guest bedroom with built-in wardrobes and a murphy bed.
The two rooms share a bathroom designed with white enamel brassware by Vola, a wash basin by Agape, and a spacious shower area behind steel-framed semi-glazed screening.
The long hallway on the ground floor is fitted with built-in storage and space for the washer and dryer under the stairs.
The cherry on top of the cake is the magnificent roof terrace built from slatted timber birch boards. It features a built-in bench, a potting shed, a charming dining spot, and lots of plants.
The house is listed for £3,500,000 at The Modern House.
