An Apartment with Original Details and a Stunning Period-Style Bathroom
This charming one-bedroom apartment is located on the second floor of an early 20th-century apartment building in Sweden. The 55 square meter home has been renovated with great care and attention, where every detail suits the historic character of the house.
As much of the original interior from the 1920s has been preserved, and these historic elements are paired with contemporary additions in an old-fashioned style. The entire apartment is painted in muted green, gray, and beige hues with one exception: the tiniest room in the house is certainly worth seeing!
The kitchen is the heart of the home. It was built on-site using solid wood cabinets that have recently been repainted in a beige “Wheat Grey” linseed oil paint from Ottossons.
Although the apartment isn’t very big, the kitchen is rather spacious and can easily house a large dining table, as you can see here. The room also features a preserved mullioned window with mouth-blown glass and a lush courtyard view.
An original pantry cupboard is located in the corner of the room.
The entire room features the original Herrgårds paneling, painted in a beige linseed oil from Ottossons Färgmakeri.
The beige cabinets are topped with a solid oak countertop and a stainless steel sink. The upper cabinets are broken up with beige wooden shelves, and classic white subway tiles from Höganäs are used as the backsplash.
The bright living room is painted in “Washed Linen” by Jotun, paired with light wooden floorboards.
The room features a preserved barred window with mouth-blown glass and views of the communal courtyard.
The spacious bedroom is decorated with a gray and silver wallpaper from Cole and Son that glimmers when the light falls on it.
The room has two original built-in wardrobes, meaning the main room can be left uncluttered, calm, and open.
The apartment’s layout is slightly unusual. The entry hall opens directly into the living room, and in the corner, a small bathroom has been created hidden by a sliding door.
I adore this bathroom. While the rest of the apartment is decorated in muted tones, the bathroom is bold thanks to the deep red, glossy subway tiles crowned with a tile strip.
A black vanity cabinet from Aspen is topped with marble and a porcelain sink.
The shower is fitted with the same tiles from Höganäs but in white and paired with a shower from Tapwell. The wallpaper with the fern motif is called “Woodland Ferns” by Sanderson.
The entry hall is fitted with the original “Herrgårds” paneling (just as the kitchen), and a small niche has been fitted with shelves and a rail for shoes, coats, and other items.
The apartment is listed for sale at Kvarteret Mäkleri – styling by Livindeco and photography by Krister Engström
