A Charming Vintage Apartment with Historic Wallpapers in Stockholm
The former gatekeeper’s residence on the ground floor of a late 19th century apartment building in Stockholm has been transformed into a cozy home with period details and a charming outdoor space surrounded by greenery.
The apartment is only 40 square meters big, so it will come as a surprise when you hear that this tiny home is the result of a merger of two even smaller apartments. The lovely apartment features original elements like wooden floorboards and skirting boards, and these are supplemented with restored joinery in a period style.Â
The cozy living room has two large windows with historic deep window sills and period features like skirting boards, moldings, and original floorboards. The room is decorated with vintage decor, creating a warm and personal atmosphere.
A red velvet armchair with an ochre yellow pillow in front of the window creates the perfect reading nook.
The walls and floors are painted with Auro paint in the color Sandstone, and the joinery is painted with linseed oil paint in the colors Umber Gray and Cream White. If you’re familiar with Swedish homes, you may recognize a traditional Swedish fireplace. You would think that this living room features a ‘kakelugn,’ but this one holds a surprise.
It’s not a real fireplace!! The owners added a cabinet in the shape of a traditional fireplace that you would normally see in an apartment from this time period.
The kitchen is a charming space with a new pine floor. The kitchen doors are painted in a warm gray linseed oil paint from Byggfabriken and the walls are freshly painted with pearl grey paint from Auro.
The small kitchen maximizes storage space. On one side, they added a double row of upper cabinets, and the small area next to the window is fitted with storage shelves.
I love these small wooden folding tables that you so often see in Swedish homes.
The bedroom is a combined master bedroom and nursery. The walls are decorated with the ‘Kastanie’ wallpaper from Lim & Handtryck, featuring a pattern that dates back to the latter part of the 19th century, the same time this apartment was built.
One wall is fitted with built-in wardrobes painted with linseed oil in a warm gray shade.
The bathroom is designed in a simple style with white tiles on the walls. Shelves have been fitted in front of the window for extra storage space. The joinery is painted in linseed oil paint from Byggfabriken in a light olive color.
The hall is decorated with the Mölletorp wallpaper from Lim & Handtryck. It is a reconstruction of a pattern from the 1850s.
The entry is fitted with a custom-built hat rack with coat hooks.
