The 2026 Sherwin-Williams Color Trends Forecast consists of 48 hand-picked hues and is divided into four palettes: Frosted Tints, Sunbaked Hues, Restorative Darks, and Foundational Neutrals.

An evolution of the delicate tints from previous forecasts, milky pastels are making their significant return, unfolding in spaces defined by effortlessly clean lines, artful accents, and elevated styling.

After the bold and rich “Rumors” in 2025, and the more neutral shades “Cracked Pepper” and “Blank Canvas” in previous years, Behr Paint Company has chosen Hidden Gem as its 2026 color of the year.

How to Use Hidden Gem, Behr’s Color of the Year 2026

Hidden Gem is a timeless and natural color that also feels fresh and classic. The color works great as a standalone color pop or in combination with other natural and neutral hues. In addition, this rich yet grounded color pairs beautifully with natural materials like wood or brass fittings, making it an ideal color for a kitchen.

In this small Swedish kitchen, the cabinets (painted in a similar shade to Hiddem Gem) are paired with a white countertop and backplash tiles, as well as natural materials like the leather handles and wooden shelves.

Paint your bedroom walls in “Hidden Gem” and pair it with natural materials like wicker and rattan, and light neutral tones in the art and bedding.

Go all out with rich hues, even in the smallest room of the house. This bathroom pairs a blue-green hue on the walls with emerald tiles and a terracotta bathtub.

Instead of painting the walls, you can take inspiration from this walk-in closet and paint the wardrobe doors. Pair it with a fresh yellow sofa for a bright color pop.

Even though the shade in this living room is more blue than Hiddem Gem, it does show what a wonderfully rich interior scheme you can create with a color like Behr’s Hidden Gem. In this fantastic home, it is paired with rich tones like ochre and terracotta as well as multi-colors decor.

Almost every Color of the Year chosen by leading paint brands like Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and the Pantone Color Institute was shown in the New York and London fashion week color trend reports.

The color palettes also share a lot of similarities, which suggests that the design world is heading toward a specific color trend.

According to the Pantone Color Institute, the LFW Autumn/Winter 2025-2026 palette harmonizes creativity, heritage, and change. The trending colors of 2026 reflect a deep, moody atmosphere enriched by elegantly grounded earth tones and ethereal, vaporous whispers of tinted whites and lavender blues. The addition of brighter reds and eco-inspired blues and greens injects vibrancy, enhancing the seasonal story with an aura of innovation.

The key color trends for the London Fashion Week Color Palette

• Rich, Earthy Tones: Deep burgundy, warm rust, mustard yellow, and dark olive provide a foundation of timeless sophistication.
• Muted Neutrals: Soft grays, creamy whites, and deep browns balance the intensity of richer hues.
• Bold Contrast: Striking reds and moody greens bring a sense of drama and depth to the palette.

The London color selection is all about depth, contrast, and an invitation to experiment with a refined yet adventurous approach to color design.

The key color trends for the New York Fashion Week Color Palette

New York’s palette reflects a fusion of tradition and modernity, helping you explore personal creativity while embracing familiarity.

The New York palette features more romantic colors like light pink, purple, and a lovely reddish pink. Light pink is a classic and looks good in any room. If you want to create a soft, romantic vibe in the bedroom, you should add this color.

The New York color palette features Brandied Melon, a soft and muted orange shade that adds the right amount of warmth and color to your interior space.

Dark blue, like Pantone’s Crown Blue, is a classic color for the bedroom. It creates a cozy and relaxing atmosphere in the room where you need to get your rest. It can be paired with neutral tones, but also with a soft pink for a more romantic touch.

Mustard yellow is a shade we have seen a lot in recent years, but the New York palette shows a lighter yellow shade, ‘Lemon Grass,’ which will add a nice subtle color pop to your interior. This bathroom shows that it also works well in the form of tilework.

A couple of years ago, PPG/Glidden already chose a teal green shade as their color of the year, and it looks like the color is making a comeback as both color palettes feature this color. This light Victorian townhouse already showed the strength of this color in their library room.

The New York color palette features a lovely terracotta orange shade that can be used in home accessories or as a warm, natural shade on the walls.

But these color palettes show a shift toward classic, timeless tones that offer stability while also incorporating modern expressions of bold color to spark individuality and innovation. Deep reds, browns, and mustard yellows suggest a return to heritage hues, while deep greens and blues blend the past with the future.

It is also interesting that both color palettes feature Poppy Red, Hot Chocolate, and Crown Blue. As 2025 has been the year of brown and in previous years, we’ve seen an abundance of blue, perhaps 2026 is the year for a cheerful orange-red shade!

But whether it’s the rich, dramatic contrasts seen in the London palette or the softer, poetic blends from New York, in 2026, we will embrace color in a way that feels authentic and meaningful—highlighting balance, creativity, and personal expression.

Pantone is the global color authority, and its color forecasts have a huge impact on the design world. In early 2024, The Nordroom made a Color of the Year prediction based on the color palettes provided by Pantone, showing the trending hue for the upcoming year. And Pantone’s Color of the Year 2025 was one of the trending color predictions.

For a couple of years, there has been a growing movement to align ourselves with nature, which we also see reflected in the past colors of the years. Characterized by its organic nature, Pantone’s Mocha Mousse honors and embraces the sustenance of our physical environment. Mocha Mousse finds harmony and balance between the demands of modernity and the timeless beauty of artful creation.

In addition to choosing a Color of the Year 2025, Pantone has also created five color palettes with hues complementing Mocha Mousse.

The Relaxed Elegance color palette consists of warm neutral from a cream tone to a dark brown that will create a harmonious and calming look.

The Floral Pathways color palette features beautiful natural hues like green, blue, and brown. It’s more diverse in tones than the relaxed elegance palette, but still natural, calm, and harmonious.

Pantone’s 2025 color, Mocha Mousse, is a versatile color that can be added to walls, floors, furniture, and home decor accessories. Whether you want to fully embrace the warm brown or use it as an access color, this hue is perfect to create a warm ambiance in your interior space.

The timing couldn’t have been better. This beautiful kitchen by  Isla Porter, a new female-founded kitchen company, reached my inbox right after Pantone chose its color of the year. Isla Porter designed this kitchen in collaboration with The Misfit House, and it’s a classic design with a trending color look.

Moody, warm, and natural. This kitchen perfectly blends a moody kitchen cabinet color with a brown wall and brown tiles. Paired with a marble worktop it creates a luxurious yet inviting space.

While the color palette of 2025 consists of several diverse hues, it is cohesive, which we will explore in this article. Plenty of beautiful interiors, at the end of the article, will inspire a new color story in your home. Let’s take a look at the 2025 color trends.

The color palette shows a selection of muted, earthy tones and rich, vintage-inspired shades, meaning that the color world is shifting towards a balance of warm, natural, and sophisticated shades that evoke comfort, stability, and a grounded connection to the natural world around us.

Behr chooses a color in the red color family. Their 2025 color ‘Rumors’ is a dusty burgundy shade that is rich and deep but not overpowering. The color is perfect for those who want to add warmth and depth to their interior spaces, which creates the perfect balance between nostalgic and contemporary.

A warm yellow shade is also one of nine colors on the Sherwin-Williams Color Capsule for 2025.

Blue tones are a safe choice for any interior, although the trending blue colors from Valspar (Encore) and HGTV Home (Quietude) are more interesting than regular blue. Our love for blue is an antidote to our busy and sometimes unconnected lives. Instead of a technological connection, we’re craving a natural connection that adds a calming vibe to our interiors.

At the same time, richer colors such as golden mustard and Behr’s deep ruby red ‘Rumors’ provide contrast, adding depth and a touch of boldness without overwhelming the senses.

This palette reflects our collective need for spaces that feel timeless, comfortable, and connected to nature. As we move through 2025, expect to see these colors embraced in both interior design and fashion, offering a perfect balance between the past and present, luxury and simplicity.

Besides a color of the year, paint companies release trending color palettes to help you combine trending hues in a cohesive color scheme. These stunning palettes were created for 2025.

The Nordroom’s Color of the Year Prediction

In early 2024, The Nordroom created a Color of the Year 2025 prediction article based on the color trends from New York and London Fashion Week. Now that the leading paint brands in the world have released their Colors of the Year for 2025, we can see that there is indeed a big correlation between fashion and the interior design world.

Many colors from the Fashion Week color palettes are also found in the Colors of the Year and their accompanying trending color palettes. Let’s take a look at the two color palettes and their corresponding paint Colors of the Year 2025.

Almost all Colors of the Year 2025 also appear in these color palettes. Pantone’s Mocha Mousse, Benjamin Moore’s Cinnamon Slate,’ Behr’s Rumors,’ Dulux’s True Joy,’ PPG’s ‘Purple Basil,’ and the blue tones from HGTV Home, Dutch Boy, and Valspar.    

deVOL Kitchens knows the strength of a deep red hue, which is why they have their own red shade called ‘Refectory Red.’ This kitchen, designed by Uns Hobbs and deVOL, shows the beauty of this color.

A purple kitchen is not something you see every day, but this modern example in a London duplex apartment shows that a warm purple hue is a perfect warm neutral for the kitchen.

There is a shift from light tones to darker hues in the bedroom, and this purple is warm, calm, and inviting. Perfect for a bedroom.

Heather’s Scottish home is packed with color. In the living room, she paired a deep purple shade with natural green and ochre yellow, combining two trend colors.

You don’t have to paint walls; trend colors can also be added to home decorations like textiles, vases, or prints. In this moody living room, a purple rug adds a nice color pop to the room.

You can also add color through furniture. Interior designer Heidi Caillier opted for a purple sofa in a dark-painted sitting room in a Dutchess County country house.

To me, a bright yellow like True Joy feels very modern, but this living room shows how amazing this color looks in a period home.

Heather (@house_of_whimsy_and_whiskers) knew the beauty of this color, long before Benjamin Moore did. In her living room, she paired a similar shade with ochre yellow and green.

Interior designer knows how to decorate with color, so it comes as no surpire that she has already used a color similar to Cinnamon Slate in one of her homes. In her Washington project, she chose the warm color for a bathroom paired with golden accents and blue curtains.

You may be thinking ‘this sounds rather extreme’, but a color drenched room doesn’t have to be overwhelming or too colorful. You can use any color you want, including muted and light shades like pale pink or muted blue (which is already gaining attraction in the 2025 color of the year picks).

Color drenching is not the same as color blocking or a two-tone wall. With color blocking, you create fun and graphic patterns on your walls for a unique wall feature, and a two-tone wall (as the name suggests) limits itself to the walls. With color drenching, you paint the walls and the ceiling, and when you want to immerse yourself and your room in color completely, you also paint cabinets, fireplaces, and other period features.

The Netherlands has one King of Color and that is interior stylist Theo-Bert Pot. It will come as no surprise that his own apartment features several color-drenched rooms, from the living room to the bathroom.
