Antiques and Modern Additions in a Cozy Top Floor Duplex Apartment https://www.thenordroom.com/antiques-modern-additions-cozy-top-floor-duplex-apartment/ Tue, 03 Jun 2025 07:00:00 +0000 https://www.thenordroom.com/?p=60373 This charming duplex apartment lies on the top two floors of a historic building in one of the fashionable neighborhoods around Strandvägen in Stockholm. This apartment of only 55 square meters feels like a small townhouse in the center of the city.

Historic elements from the 19th century, like high ceilings and barred windows with hand-blown glass, have been preserved and supplemented with contemporary additions like a spiral steel staircase and a new kitchen.

But overall, the apartment has a classic feel, thanks to the herringbone parquet floor on the lower floor and antique furnishings. Even though the apartment is small, this home is full of charm and cozy rooms.

The lower floor has an open floor plan that seamlessly flows from the entry hall into an open-plan living room and kitchen. White walls and a herringbone parquet floor form the classic base for this space.

It’s the second time we will tour this beautiful home, and while some elements have stayed the same since it was last put on the market, much of the decorating has changed, so it’s nice to see the difference.

The apartment has an amazing, social layout with a grand open-plan living space with dedicated spaces for lounging, dining, and cooking. What gives this penthouse apartment so much character is the architectural features, like the exposed wooden beams, a brick wall, and a traditional Swedish fireplace.

The historical elements combine perfectly with contemporary material choices, modern colors, and lots of custom-built-in storage space. Large rugs, art, and midcentury furniture pieces add coziness to the attic apartment.
